Duties

Personal Disaster Assistance (PDA) Responder

  • Working with a small team of trained responders, you will support clients affected by smaller disaster events such as house fires.

  • This support will include assessing short-term needs and providing access to immediate services such as shelter, food, clothing.

  • Your compassion and caring for those affected will help them focus on the next steps and recovery.

  • When not responding, you will help your team remain prepared and may get involved with community disaster preparedness initiatives that reduce the impact of disasters in your community.

  • You are willing to assist people in your community who are in need, and you can take on periodic on-call shifts.

Emergency Response Team (ERT) Responder

  • Along with a team of experienced volunteers, you will assess the needs of those affected by an emergency event.

  • You will work with your team and community partners to provide access to services such as shelter, food, clothing, and the registration of evacuees. You will also help provide emotional care and comfort within an emergency shelter, community reception centre, community recovery centre or through outreach activities in the community.

  • Ideally, you are willing to help within your community and you may be available to help in other communities periodically throughout the year.
