Sunrise Developmental Support Services

Volunteers at Sunrise Developmental Support Services’ New Year’s Eve Overnight Bash will have a variety of roles depending on their shift:

  • Pre-event / Setup (Day-time Dec. 31st): Assist with decorating, moving and setting up tables, and food preparation.

  • Glamour Hour (Dec. 31st from 5-6pm): Help members as they arrive for early hair and makeup in preparation for the evening festivities.

  • During the Event (Starts at 6pm): Join in the fun with our members as they enjoy a “Night in Vegas” theme — including dancing, karaoke, card and board games. Volunteers may also help facilitate table games; guidance will be provided for any unfamiliar games, or volunteers can be assigned an alternative task.

  • Support: Volunteers are not responsible for personal hygiene, but should notify staff if a member requires assistance.

  • Overnight / Morning: Volunteers may stay overnight to assist with morning preparations, including setting up and serving a fresh brunch.

  • Pack-up / Follow-up: Assist with cleaning up and packing up at the cabin. Volunteers who accompany staff back to Sunrise’s main building to unpack equipment and supplies will earn an extended 2 volunteer hours.

Volunteers will be provided with food, beverages, and support throughout their shift.

Do you want to support families impacted by cancer? Can you commit four (4) hours per week to providing psychosocial support to a child in need? Join Nankind and help lessen the impact of cancer on families by offering in-home childcare support. 

How You Can Help: 

  • Provide psychosocial support to help children develop coping skills and build resilience. 
  • Provide fun, educational, creative, and safe experiences for children. 
  • Commit to a minimum of six (6) months to ensure stability during a parent’s cancer treatment and recovery. 
  • Offer four (4) hours of childcare support per week to the same family in your area.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Network
Support and volunteerism is for anyone in Ontario.

The Peer Support Volunteer plays a vital role in providing compassionate, empathetic support to individuals and families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Volunteers offer a listening ear, shared understanding, and companionship on the grief journey, creating a safe space for bereaved individuals to express their feelings, share memories, and receive validation from someone who “gets it.” By joining our team, you’ll help ensure that no one has to grieve alone.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support through one-on-one phone calls, online meetings, or in-person (as appropriate) to individuals who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss.
  • Listen actively, showing empathy and compassion, and creating a safe, non-judgmental space for individuals to share their grief.
  • Share your own experiences in a supportive and respectful manner, when appropriate, to help normalize and validate the individual’s feelings.
  • Support participants in finding resources and encourage self-care practices that align with their unique grief journey.
  • Communicate and collaborate with PAIL Network staff, sharing updates as needed while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of participants.
  • Complete initial and ongoing training to enhance skills, including workshops on grief, trauma-informed care, and cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications:

  • Personal experience with pregnancy or infant loss and a desire to support others going through similar experiences.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, with the ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental support.
  • Respect for confidentiality and boundaries, with an understanding of the importance of privacy in peer support relationships.
  • Ability to commit to regular volunteer sessions, showing reliability and consistency.
  • Willingness to participate in training, supervision, and support meetings as needed.

Training and Support:

  • Comprehensive training on topics such as grief, trauma-informed care, effective communication, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ongoing support from PAIL Network staff and access to additional training opportunities.
  • Regular check-ins and debriefing sessions to support volunteers in their role.

  • Following up with all members for deadlines and reporting if they are being completed on time

Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary

Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary is the only monkey sanctuary in Canada. Volunteer tasks include indoor and outdoor enclosure cleaning * preparing dinners,  food enrichment and treats for the moneys *  If skilled, carpentry projects, such as building monkey sleep boxes, creating structural enrichment and assisting with facilities maintenance * If you are unable to join us on-site, there are other volunteer opportunities to assist with fundraising and campaigns.
