Summary of Role

As a Bingo/Casino volunteer you will be representing the DRCC at a local Ontario Lottery Gaming location and acting as an advocate and with general customer service skills.  The DRCC is fortunate to receive a portion of profits through the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association, and as such we are required to represent our organization at a local OLG business during our set hours.  You will be provided a collared shirt/vest, name tag, and will be sharing information about the DRCC, and supporting general operations at the gaming location.  

Role Responsibilities

●      Attend general DRCC training/orientation

●      Represent DRCC as an advocate during set hours (2 hour shifts)

●      Attend OCGA/OLG online training, and shadow an experienced volunteer prior to first shift

●      Participate with, as needed, customer service tasks, including cleaning screens and other maintenance tasks

●       Other duties as agreed upon

COSTI is currently recruiting volunteers for its Community Connections Program to support government-sponsored refugee families arriving in the Greater Toronto Area. Selected volunteers will be matched with a newcomer family to assist in their integration and settlement journey, providing guidance, support, and a welcoming presence as they adapt to their new community.

Duties of Welcome Group volunteers might vary based on the family’s needs, some of which might include  

• Build a positive and trusting relationship with newcomer families 

• Socialize and engage with the newcomer family to help build connections and raise a sense of belonging 

• Provide interpretation support if you speak the same language as the family  

• Escort the newcomer clients to some appointments to help navigate the public transportation system 

• Provide information and share resources based on the family's needs 

• Hold a casual conversation with parents/ adult family members to enhance English skills

Assist staff with social and recreational activities * work one on one with a client * help with meal preparation, serving meals and other kitchen duties

Become a facilitator and work as a team to support those with emotional or mental health concerns in a group setting* support groups take place in-person and virtually during the week * extensive training required

Weekly visits to a client's home for a couple of hours to share activities, friendship and laughter 
 

Help with transporting clients to the venue * Assist with the in-person luncheons. 
 
Duties could be related to serving food, engaging with clients, administrative support, entertainment/activities

Call a list of clients for a friendly chat * provide social contact and prevent isolation

HELP volunteers will be trained to support patients with delirium prevention at the Oshawa Hospital.  

As a member of a customer-focused volunteer team, you will welcome patients and visitors to Lakeridge Health, provide them with appropriate and required assistance to find their destination within the hospital, and learn about the services and departments in the hospital.  Please note this is role requires standing and walking.

Volunteers provide support by interacting with patients in group settings.  You will assist recreation therapists by helping with cognitive or creative activities such as games, arts, crafts, and music. These volunteers also assist with escorting patients to common areas for socialization and events.

General volunteers do a variety of tasks including food service * dispensing pantry goods * monitoring washrooms * coat check * and various other odd jobs.

Visit one-on-one with a resident * listen, chat and enjoy some time together

Assist with Recreation activities

The Board of Directors represents the leaders of our agency and serves as a working board that oversees the long term strategic vision and overall health of the organization. Directors approve the organization’s philosophy and continually review the management’s performance while working toward agency goals. The Board of Directors will also annually review and approve plans for funding in view of organizational goals. Board members have a list of responsibilities that they renew every year during the annual election at our Annual General Meeting.

Poppy Campaign, decoration committee, Colour Party (walking, holding flags and attending multiple events), meat rolls, fundraiser support, and working in the kitchen 

In this role, you will: work with other volunteers to support Auxiliary fundraising goals through customer service and sales from the various operations roles are available in gift shops, cafes, and second-hand clothing stores * roles available at Ajax Pickering (hospital and long term care facility), Bowmanville (in-hospital and off-site), Oshawa, Port Perry (in-hospital and off-site)

Volunteer one to two hours of your time to help out young moms in the Durham religion by delivering free food bags.

Food delivery days are every Tuesday, where our volunteers meet up at our Ajax office around 12:00 pm to pick up the food bags. They then deliver the bags to pregnant/new moms, and their families in Durham.

Girls Inc. of Durham is currently looking for Bingo volunteers!   Volunteers are needed for a 2-hour shift once a week at Delta Bingo and Gaming in Pickering. In exchange for volunteering, Delta generously supports Girls Inc. programs.   A single volunteer shift can raise enough funds to sponsor a girl to attend a life-changing Girls Inc. camp for FREE!   We are looking for individuals who are: -19+ -have two doses of their vaccine -available during the day 

Assist staff by helping out at community events in Durham Region work in shifts to help staff the CCD booth for a few hours pick up and/or return CCD booth and materials to the local Hub * booth set-up and/or tear down * greet and engage with visitors to the booth * converse with visitors in promoting volunteering, services and other CCD initiatives

Support residents at meal time * assist residents to eat their meals, use safe feeding techniques, monitor residents eating/drinking while observing dietary requirements * encourage interaction and conversation with those at table
