Seeds of Diversity is a nationally-incorporated charity that engages Canadians to secure the future of food production and adapt Canadian food systems to new challenges of the next century. Through education and hands-on skills training, gardeners young and old preserve the  biodiversity and sustainability of our agricultural food systems.

Youth in Food Systems is a program of Seeds of Diversity that works to support youth in food systems learning, skills development, and agri-food career exploration through several in-person and remote projects across Ontario. 

THE ROLE

Our social media is one of our primary communication platforms, and we’re looking for youth interested in helping us to grow it with fun, relevant, and informational content! You will be able to co-lead our Instagram page (@youthinfoodsystems) by conducting research, creating posts, and (optional) interacting with our audience. 

Time commitment: 3 month minimum, 2+ post designs / month on a self-selected schedule

As an Administrative Assistant you will support regular admin tasks related to supporting clients. Directing calls, assisting with managing business files, organizing daily task schedules of employees, as well, there will be need to support the social media initiatives as required. We are seeking a candidate who can communicate and write with the brand in mind, as well as plan publicity campaigns and public relations activities

The ideal candidate will have an education or experience in communications, writing, PR, journalism, social media, marketing, or business administration.

HIGHLIGHTS include *website content updating* social media: Brochures & Flyers* create and co-edit with graphic designer* create and pre-program daily / monthly posts* monitor and maintain all social media platforms* Liaison with media, set up interviews* post events on media websites, Carion Fenn Network, Facebook & Eventbrite.

Designing social media content for our platform that are engaging with current trends and opportunities to increase brand exposure for our company.

• Collaborate in teams and or with other staff members and volunteers.
• Propose ideas to improve DFCC's social media platforms.
• Provide support for designing flyers, and posters while being informed of trending topics.
• Create and plan the contents of the volunteer and or youth monthly newsletter. It can incorporate feature articles, updates and highlights of DFCC's activities and achievements. 
• Create weekly quotes either inspirational or informative to engage followers.
• Writing blog posts about our initiatives and events 
• Identify community needs and recommend new topics

• Promoting our programs and workshops on social networks and monitor engagement (e.g. comments and shares)
• Creating and distributing marketing copy to advertise our projects
• Writing blog posts about our inititatives and events 
• Ultimately, you will help us reach our target audience by delivering both useful and appealing online information regarding our events, workshops and programs.
• Identify community needs and recomend new topics

Requirements:

• A student involved in the above areas of study, seeking to get hands on experience

   Or:

• Anyone with experience and a willingness to get involved with community work.
