Duties

The Durham Region International Film Festival (DRIFF) is looking for a volunteer Treasurer

The DRIFF Treasurer:
• records all financial transactions using Quickbooks
• generates monthly financial reports for distribution at board meetings
• generates reports for grant applications as needed
• submits quarterly HST refund filings
• prepares and submits annual income tax return

We are looking for someone with at least 1 year of practical experience using Quickbooks in the workplace.

Skills/Experience Accounting & Finance - Quickbooks knowledge and skill is essential ; Communication & Interpersonal Skills ; Dependability & Trustworthiness ; General Computer Skills ; Planning & Organizing ; Self-Motivated / Work Independently ; Team Work ; Experience with not-for-profit organizations would be a real asset. The new Treasurer would need their own computer. DRIFF pays the monthly subscription fees for access to Quickbooks.
Commitment Length Long Term (Minimum of 6 months) - 2 years ; It would be best if the new Treasurer can start this fall, so that a comfortable overlap can be agreed to with our current Treasurer, to ease-in the new person.
Interaction Level Solitary - for financial transactions and report generation ; You are welcome in-person at community screenings, the Film Festival and the Gala, as your time and interest allow. Tickets to all will be provided for you.
Minimum Hours 1 / Month
Dates and Times Choose your own time to keep the Quickbooks entries up-to-date, and to generate reports as needed.
Seasons Year Round ; Most months are slow (fewer than 10 transactions to input per month) in our current financial situation.  
September to November are the busiest months for transactions (30 to 50 transactions per month), because the Film Festival takes place over 3 days in late October.
Accessibility All the work of the Treasurer would be done in your own home or office. If you chose to attend our events, all the venues we are currently using are accessible except The Biltmore.

Training Orientation ; We are hoping that the new Treasurer can start soon, so that a comfortable overlap can be arranged with our current Treasurer, to ease-in the new person. 
A board member will continue to do all the actual financial transactions, input those details into an Excel document, and ensure all numbers match the bank statements. This is to ease the burden on the Treasurer. The Treasurer uses the excel entries to inform the Quickbooks entries at a convenient time. The board member stores all the physical invoices and receipts, and the CRA documents. These two people will communicate as needed to ensure accuracy and a comfortable volunteering experience for both.
